Kinney “Reid” Hanchey IV, 41, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at his home in DeRidder, Louisiana. Reid was the son of Kinney Reid Hanchey III and Melanie Shirley Marcello and step-father, John Marcello. Reid was born on February 18, 1983, in DeRidder.

Reid, also called KR by his family, was a 2001 honor graduate of DeRidder High School. During his senior year, Reid was chosen wittiest by his fellow classmates. In junior high school, Reid and Martin Holmes were selected to attend the National Student Council Convention in Hot Springs, Arkansas where he made the opening address to the assembly. He graduated from McNeese State University earning a B.S. degree and obtained a Process Technology degree from SOWELA Technical College. He previously worked as a Landman in the petroleum industry and for Sasol. In his early years, Reid played football, basketball, and ran track. Reid and his father enjoyed riding motorcycles. His most memorable trip was when he, his dad, and David Cochran rode cross country on motorcycles to attend the Harley Bike Festival in Sturgis, South Dakota. He and his father also rode 1,500 miles in 36 hours from DeRidder to Key West, Florida, giving them the distinction as members of the Iron Butt Association. Reid was also a NASCAR enthusiast. He enjoyed visiting major race tracks around the country, meeting the drivers, and taking rides around the tracks in their race cars. He was an avid LSU football fan, a New Orleans Saints fan, and a Cincinnati Bengals fan.

Reid was known by his family for his passion for cooking. He created most of his own recipes. Every year, the family always anticipated his yearly tradition of gifting the family with his delicious sausage bread.

Family was very important to Reid. He always made time for his cousins. When his Uncle Kevin came to DeRidder with cousins Lennsey, Ali, and William, he was on the scene to play video games with William or go to the family farm to ride four wheelers and fish. When his cousins Brittany and Brooke visited his grandmother, he would always take time to go by and see them.

Reid leaves behind a family that loved him and will miss him dearly. His father, Kinney Reid Hanchey, III; paternal grandmother, Dr. Lennie Hanchey, and maternal grandmother, Rita Shirley; uncles, Kevin Hanchey of Baton Rouge, and Brian Shirley and wife Katheryn of DeRidder; one aunt, Melinda Pekol and husband Greg of Parker, Colorado; stepfather, John Marcello and wife Nedra of DeRidder; his step-sister, Monica Leigh Watkin and husband Scott of Houston, Texas; cousins, Lennsey Hilbert and husband Duval, Canson Hilbert, Alice Hanchey, William Hanchey, Brooke Shirley Miller and husband Dylan, Brittany Shirley, Samantha Pekol Gordy and husband Michael, Jacob Pekol, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family would like to offer special thanks to all those who have expressed words of comfort and love, shared condolences, and showed expressions of love by preparing and delivering food. They would also like to express their thanks to Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder.
